Second City Canine Rescue (SCCR) is a nonprofit organization serving Chicago and the surrounding area, with an Adoption Center located in Palatine. We rescue dogs from local shelters as well as from outside Illinois. Recently, we celebrated a milestone by finding forever homes for 7,300 dogs!

By joining our Run for the Dogs team, SCCR ensures your entry into the 2027 Bank of America Chicago Marathon and offers additional benefits based on your chosen tier. In return, you commit to fundraising (or paying out of pocket) a minimum amount in donations to help our dogs.

- 2027 Bank of America Chicago Marathon entry (runner-paid)
- SCCR “run for the dogs” marathon jersey or t-shirt
- SCCR-paid MarathonFoto, the official race day photographer of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, picture package
- 15% off a marathon training package from Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA)
- Fundraising assistance by SCCR’s fundraising professional
- A personalized, online fundraising page
- Free and exclusive use of SCCR’s Adoption Center for fundraising parties with puppies!
- Opportunity to purchase a hotel room in SCCR’s block near the starting line
- SCCR Pasta and Puppies party the day before the Chicago Marathon
- Runner’s choice of one of the following:
- SCCR-paid marathon training package from Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA); or,
- One night in an SCCR-paid hotel room near the marathon starting line
- An additional SCCR “run for the dogs” marathon jersey or t-shirt for training
- Runner’s choice of TWO of the following three options:
- SCCR-paid marathon training package from Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA);
- One night in an SCCR-paid hotel room near the marathon starting line;
- A second night in an SCCR-paid hotel room near the marathon starting line
- An additional SCCR “run for the dogs” marathon jersey or t-shirt for training and a hat
How joining and fundraising for SCCR’s Run for the Dogs team works
- To apply to join our team, review the above entry levels and complete the below application.
- After you apply, SCCR will email you to set up an online interview with one of our volunteers.
- If accepted to our team, we will send you a contract for both SCCR and you to e-sign. Once this Team Contract is signed by both you and SCCR, you are guaranteed a spot in the 2027 Bank of America Chicago Marathon AND you have contracted to fundraise or pay out of pocket your chosen fundraising minimum.
- Fundraising can be intimidating. With personalized support from SCCR, we created four milestones throughout the year to make it attainable.
- March 1, 2027: You will have raised $350 on your fundraising page by this date. If your fundraising page isn’t at $350 by this date, SCCR will charge your card on file to get you up to $350.
- May 1, 2027: You will have raised $850 on your fundraising page by this date. If your fundraising page isn’t at $850 by this date, SCCR will charge your card on file to get you up to $850.
You can also withdraw from SCCR’s run for the dogs team by this date with no further requirement to fundraise and the ability to rejoin in a future year. - July 1, 2027: You will have raised $1,500 on your fundraising page by this date. If your fundraising page isn’t at $1,500 by this date, SCCR will charge your card on file to get you up to $1,500.
- October 1, 2027: You will have completed your fundraising minimum. If your fundraising page isn’t at your fundraising minimum by this date, SCCR will charge your card on file to get you up to the minimum.
